Our Aim & History
The aim of the society is to promote knowledge and information, recognition and pride in our heritage, as well as our people's historical, cultural and social achievements.
1830-1930, known as the 'Socialist years', saw the historic events unfold with radical history and legacy through the events of the Merthyr Rising of 1831, Chartism, the election of Henry Richard MP 'The apostle of peace' and Keir Hardie MP.
It is with this struggle, by those brave individuals, men and women who sacrificed so much with their lives, freedom and livelihoods that established the roots of the Welsh Trade Union Movement, their involvement in the 1831 Rising, The Chartist movement, the 'Fed' and the establishment of the Independent Labour Party (I.L.P)
